I make pies the day before Thanksgiving, I also make fresh whipped cream to put on the top.  Fresh whipped cream is easy to make, yummy, and it almost makes you look like a chef.

Extra:  Homemade Whipped Cream

1 cup of Heavy Cream

2-3 TBS of sugar

½ – 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla

A whole lotta elbow grease (or an electric mixer)

Before you start, put a big mixing bowl and your wire whip or mixer beater into the refrigerator for about a half an hour.  Once those are cold, combine the cream, sugar and vanilla in your bowl.  I like it sweeter, so I use three tablespoons of sugar, but you can use just two.  I also use 1 teaspoon of vanilla for more flavor.   Beat the mixture with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks start to form.  Don’t beat on a high-speed bewhip-cream-startcause you can over whip the cream and it won’t stiffen.
If you don’t have an electric mixer you can whip the cream using a whisk and get about 6 minutes of good exercise in. If you have kids, this is a good job for them to do to burn off some energy with the added bonus of getting to lick the whisk off when they’re done.
