I have run into a problem almost every time I have tried to calculate nutritional values for the foods I cook, the weight of meat. When you look up a recipe it says something like 8 oz. of chicken. What the hell does 8 ounces of chicken look like? I buy chicken and there are 4 breasts in the package and they are different sizes. So how am I supposed to know what the weight of each breast is? I am personally opposed to owning a food scale and weighing my food. It seems overly food obsessed to me and I don’t like it. Again I now understand why people use those pre-made food systems.
Having said that, since I’m doing this website, I thought it would be a good idea to get a food scale. No, I’m not going to start weighing all of my food. What I am going to do is use the food scale to figure out what 8 ounces of chicken or whatever looks like and then show you pictures of it in comparison to something of a standard size like a pencil or a deck of cards. I have heard that 8 ounces is about the size of your fist. That doesn’t work because Dave would insist we use his fist to measure because he has big hands and according to him a portion the size of my fist wouldn’t be enough to feed a Chihuahua.
I bought this food scale on Amazon for about ten bucks, we’ll see if it was worth it.
